"Whirlpools at Naruto" ("Naruto") 1950

Description: A beautiful and very rare image by Takeji ASANO (1900-2002). This unusual Asano image was likely self-published and printed ca. 1950. The subtle use of color and bold representation of the disturbed water make this a personal favorite. When well-lit and displayed, this scene almost appears to move.

The impression is fine and boldly printed in "semi-sosaku hanga" style. There is light "gauffrage" to the white water areas.

Condition: Excellent. Album-backed with silver front border. One small wrinkle to the album mounting does not affect the print itself. Image size 9 1/2" x 13".
